Vampires and Swearwolves beware because Wellington Paranormal, the comedy horror mockumentary series and spin-off of the film WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, is coming to The CW and HBO Max.
Having premiered on New Zealand broadcaster TVNZ2 in 2018, Wellington Paranormal is shot in the style of police reality shows and revolves around two Wellington police officers who follow up a noise complaint in the vampires’ flat in the original film, Throughout the course of the series Officers Kyle Minogue (Mike Minogue) and O’Leary (Karen O’Leary), tackle paranormal crime on their new assignment to Sergeant Ruawai Maaka’s paranormal unit.
The purchase of Wellington Paranormal marks the first time that both Warner Media brands will share a newly-acquired show. The comedy will launch first on The CW later this summer and each episode will then be available to stream through the network’s ad-supported online platform. Meanwhile, episodes will arrive on HBO Max one day later.
Wellington Paranormal was created by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, who serve as executive producers of the series with Paul Yates, and is produced by The New Zealand Documentary Board. The show kicked off its third season in New Zealand in February, and now U.S. residents will have their chance to experience the spooktacular series.
