Actress Tara Reid seems privy to some information about American Pie 5 and she’s taking a little bit of time to tease what’s to come if everyone can get their schedules together.
During a chat with “ET Online“, Reid dropped the news that a script for American Pie 5 is out there and she claims it’s “one of the best ones” of the entire franchise before going on to say it “will happen, I just don’t know when.” Reid, who played Vicky through various entries of the franchise, seems confident that it will happen and maybe there’s some info going down in that secret American Pie group chat that insinuates the gang is going to get back together. Here is what else she had to say about a new sequel:
“It might happen… okay, I can’t tell you when, because I don’t really know when, because we have to get all the actors and at the same time to get our schedules together. There is a script out there. I’ll put it that way.”
Forgetting the spin-offs that branched off from the original franchise, the American Pie films have all been pretty solid in my book. There is this sense of familiarity when you watch a series of films and feel like you grew up with the characters and that’s the feeling I have about the American Pie franchise. From high school to marriage, to the inevitable high school reunion, the films really capture a side of growing up that is relatable and their raunch brand of comedy actually works a bit more because at the end of the day there is a bit of heart across all of the movies. Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Alyson Hannigan, Natasha Lyonne, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Mena Suvari, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Seann William Scott, and Eugene Levy alongside Tara Reid, I feel like things were wrapped up pretty well in AMERICAN REUNION but if there’s a good idea out there, I’m open to seeing it.
This isn’t the first time that Reid has expressed an interest in doing another American Pie film. Back in 2018, she admitted that she had “met the directors [Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg] recently at the Emmy party and I said, ‘Let’s do the fifth movie, the franchise needs another movie.’ They replied: ‘It will happen! We’re going to make another!’ It will be incredible to come back.” Reid went on to address the franchise’s legacy during that same chat by saying “American Pie is American Pie. Movies were a part of American culture, it’s a classic. It is known all over the world. I’m very excited. It’s going to be a great year for me, with Sharknado’s debut and the possibility of filming yet another American Pie in 2018.”
As we know, another American Pie hasn’t happened as of yet and maybe this great script is just waiting around for everyone’s schedules to open up to do it. There is no denying that the films were very successful. The original series of films, consisting of American Pie, American Pie 2, American Wedding, and American Reunion carried a combined budget of $145 million and they collectively made $989.5 million worldwide. Those are the kind of numbers that will make a studio crank out another movie, especially if the whole gang is willing to return.
